Thank you for the beautiful photo of the Plymouth Grove hotel and the history of the area.I lived in Cavanagh street from 1962 until 1969 when the Manchester Council destroyed a beautiful community by so called slum clearance.My parents owned a beautiful house in Cavanagh st that they had paid and owned and we had an indoor bathroom and attic and cellar and beautiful rooms and lovely long and bright hallway.The area was vibrant and a community with everything in it and lots of gorgeous buildings.I recall walking down to Shakespeare st with my mam when i was a little girl to get chocolate with herit was only up the road from Cavanagh st.My dear mam used to rent a room in shakespeare st before she married my Dad.They met in Sharrocks dance hall in 1955.My mam worked in the lyons cafe bar near Piccadilly station.I have such special memories of living in chorlton on medlock and i am so glad that there are other people who appreciate lovely old buildings.My Mam and Dad had their wedding reception at the Plymouth Grove Hotel in April of 1957.My brother has the photos of the wedding .i do recall the photos and how nice the wedding reception room looked at the Plymouth Grove hotel..and wish i had the photos to look at but they reside in Australia now with my Brother.Thank you for caring about old buildings as they once were special and had a life and i am so happy to see that the Plymouth grove Hotel has a second chance of lifei am overjoyed to see the amazing renovation that has breathed new life into that gorgeous building but am sad that amazing buildings were destroyed at the hands of the Manchester Council and think they committed such a huge crimethey changed the course of peoples lives.My parents were given 50 pounds compensation in 1969 and we had owned our house on Cavanagh street and the council re housed us in an area we had no connection with on a council estate in Fallowfieldwe settled into that area in time but i have never forgotten my first seven years in chorlton on medlock and have lots of special memories of that beautiful community and will never forget it.Thank you for caring about lost history as i think its so important and i am over joyed to see old photos online of my lovely childhood community.
